What’s it about?
Micky Crystal drills into the technical bedrock of lead guitar, and shows you how to build upwards with a variety of harmonic concepts.
Loaded with a swathe of pentatonic concepts, finger stretching arpeggios and heaps of fusion inspired dorian pathways.
This is an opportunity to take some of what you know, a lot of what you don’t, and create something new entirely.
What’s covered?
This Masterclass sits atop five central pillars. Legato, hybrid picking, sweep picking, alt picking, and tapping.
You’ll see exactly how Micky applies them.
Legato
Work with 3 note-per-string and 3-1-3 patterns, ultra fluid stretched sequences and how you can hop over notes within the pentatonic scale and create shapes you can translate across the fretboard.
Sweep Picking
Dig into the mechanics of sweeping and discover to nail your timing. Sweep across two strings then three, and build up to huge five string triads in the familiar key of C Major. You’ll also incorporate other ideas such as pull offs which will help your practical application.
Hybrid Picking
Time to draw inspiration from the country playing pros. Bring in some banjo rolls and learn how to flip them. Then, work with a series of pentatonic shapes which you can transpose across the neck, making use of string skipping in the process.
Alternate Picking
D Dorian with added blues, some fury filled 16th note triplets and some 7th arpeggios which once again add in a string skipping element for a further challenge. All the while keeping up a cascade of alternate picking.
Tapping
Extend scales, add flamboyance and combine tapping with long legato runs for real show stopping phrases and licks.
The Licks
Here Micky delivers 20 licks, fast and slow, across the two backings. Bring together the concepts covered in the exercises and start to work within a musical context.
The solos
This is where it all leads to. Two solos over tracks written by Al Joseph, full of flavour, feeling and technical prowess. See how Micky applies all the skills into a longer musical setting, and lifts those ideas into your improvisations and compositions.
Who is it for?
Anyone who wants to embellish their rock playing chops, heighten their technical abilities and tap into what makes a pro a pro. It’s high time to take everything you already know, and make it better.
